Deep enough,
betrayal you swore might forever scar,
it begins as a feeling you fear unending,
intensifying with every second that passes,
your heart burrows further into your chest,
as if it began to retreat in utter defeat,
losing the brightness it could give,
dimming as if never to love again,
spurring from another's act,
pain inflicted by a loved one to whom you'd given complete trust,
only for them to squander cold and selfishly,
your mind beginning to feel hazy,
your body almost to heavy to hold,
so consumed with the hurt you feel inside,
the world around you fades from sight,
catching yourself holding your breath,
praying for it to pass,
part of your innocence to trust without question,
stolen.
Wounded.
A word almost unjustly coined,
as if it were a personal weakness that was your own doing or choosing,
insecurities within you they've created,
in a moment,
losing grip of your worth,
wondering what you could have done to deserve,
ingrained in your behavior, actions, or thoughts,
for when experienced,
to only cause you to retract in protection of yourself,
to prevent any future hurt...
A genuine effort it takes,
of heart, mind, body, and soul,
to overcome these fears you face,
when you've once again found someone worthy to love,
For those you've loved in the past,
only proved the true cruelty that could be enacted,
when you realized the empty truth,
that you never knew them at all...
In you,
by all manner of daydream,
will always innately lie,
a shimmer of hope,
that no matter the amount of time that has passed,
no matter the times your heart's been broken,
that you will find that person who can finally dedicate themselves,
to loving you as true and deep as you love them...
A love that will grow,
strengthening over time,
only with proven honesty and pure effort,
that might never heal the past damage that's been done,
but surely to allow healing and overcoming,
a blessing that enters your reality,
sprouted from a tucked away unforgotten dream,
that in this life God has planned for you,
to meet the one who will know just how uniquely deserving of love you are...
